There is a notion that, as a tenant, one should not invest in a property you are renting. Most people feel that they would rather avoid updates to a space fearing their money will increase the value of the property (and benefit the landlord). Although this might be true, there is the flip side of the argument too - why live in a place that does not feel like home and why not see it as investing in yourself and your own happiness?
A young family approached Gin with the goal to customise this long-term rental villa for their own enjoyment. Instead of just “being okay” with the garden, they customised it to enjoy as their own.
A few key objectives for the project included turning it into a low maintenance garden (by removing some of the lawn), adding entertainment areas and adding outside storage. The overall look was updated and streamlined with modern lighting and by moving furniture and the layout around.
Two bonus features worth a mention is an area for their young daughter to start a veggie garden and some colourful rainbow flowers on the side of the house - just for her.
Last but not least the outside shower was installed - a real winner and a firm favourite for all. It really is about keeping the whole family happy and making it a home to love.
Top tip: if you are planning on making changes to a rental property it is crucial to get your landlord’s permission. Showing drawings or pictures of what you are planning will help get them onboard and you might even be surprised with the support you get from them.
So our advice, whether you own or rent: live in a space you love to love and update for your enjoyment.
