Today, we feature a “bunch grass” called Pennisetum setaceum, also known as fountain grass. It is a popular perennial grass that forms a tidy, dense clump of blades.
Some variants have a purplish maroon colour that can add great shades to your garden.
They are good for the eco-system. They provide shelter and protection for insects. Although you might not like the idea of insects in your garden, keeping a balanced environment is essential for a healthy green space.
They grow well on slopes and are great at preventing soil erosion. We often add them to areas where we need ground cover as well as height and they love the sun!

No two are the same and there is always movement in their shape and form. Pennisetum is an easy-to-grow addition to your garden and ideal for our climate in the UAE.
They are water-wise too, which means they are drought tolerant! With low irrigation needs you can conserve water and still have a great looking garden. Fountain grass does well in nearly any type of soil; however, for the best results fountain grass should be planted in well drained soil and loves sweet sand.
