Caring for your palm trees

Palm trees are synonyms with the region. It is a great way to add height, in addition to offering some light shade, in a garden.

We often get asked to revamp established gardens and sometimes find that a palm (or other larger plants) will look and do better in a different area of the property than where they were originally planted. This can especially be the case after home renovations or extensions on the main house.

We would discuss the options with the owner and suggest moving the tree to a better location. This is quite an undertaking but one we are experienced in and so worth it for the best end results.

Palm trees also need to be maintained. As palm trees grow, new fronds are formed every year and the oldest fronds die, turn brown and hang off the tree. It might be scary cutting off pieces from your much loved palm, but you will end up with a healthier looking and better shaped tree.

To note: When you over prune a tree, it causes them stress and makes them less resistant to diseases and eventually compromises the structure of the tree. Hence, pruning or moving palm plants must be undertaken carefully. We are a professional and experienced team that will take the best of care with each and every plant.

There is a myth that pruning a palm will make them grow faster. This is not true. Cutting back a palm tree will not make it grow faster. This myth can cause more damage as extensive pruning palms can hurt the tree.

When remodelling your garden, use a professional team that know what they are doing. We take the best of care and our results and testimonials speak for themselves.
