Perimeter hedges have been an ancient practice as property boundaries and livestock paddock dividers for centuries. Old hedegrowing was a serious skill where hedges were grown and maintained as impenetrable fences.
In modern times, we can still benefit from hedges on our properties although the maintenance is far from as intense as years ago. You can now enjoy the beauty and functionality they provide, without the blood, sweat, and tears.
We share a few reasons why you should consider adding hedges to your garden:
1. PRIVACY:
One reason we often suggest hedges to clients is for adding privacy. Plants can grow substantially taller than your perimeter wall is allowed to be built. Hedges can bring a good-looking solution to your door in the form of a soft, green barrier between you and the neighbour, an unsightly building next door, or even the street.
2. SOUND:
Reduce noise by adding density to your property. Thick vegetation like a hegde naturally absorbs noises from outside and also reduces sound and echoes from inside your property being carried away to a neighbour.
3. BEAUTY:
Hedgerows can be an aesthetically-pleasing addition to your landscape. With a diversity of flowering and fruiting plants, greens, and tidy trimmed lines, there is a lot to love.
4. WINDBREAK:
Problems with a windy corner? No need for a solid wall where the wind gets forced to find a new route. The aim of creating a windbreak with a hedge is not to stop the wind entirely, but rather to soften its force. Even a simple barrier of small trees and shrubs can be highly effective to disperse the wind around your living area.
5. SPACE SAVER: Hedges can be planned in a narrow fashion and is an ideal solution for smaller spaces. It is easy to add greenery without losing space.
